New Research Achievement for the University
Graduates of the Renewable Energy Engineering Department at Zeytoona University of Science and Technology have achieved a new milestone by publishing their scientific research in an indexed international peer-reviewed journal, under the supervision of Dr. Alaa Salameh.
The research paper is titled:
“From Technical Potential to Governance Constrained Deployment: A Hybrid GIS–MCDA Assessment of Photovoltaic Suitability in the West Bank”
It has been published in Energy for Sustainable Development, a top-tier international scientific journal ranked Q1 in the SCOPUS database.
The study can be accessed via the Digital Object Identifier (DOI): https://doi.org/10.1016/j.esd.2026.102156
Study Overview
The paper evaluates the spatial suitability for solar photovoltaic (PV) projects in the West Bank using a hybrid methodology that combines Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA). It thoroughly considers environmental, climatic, infrastructural, land-use factors, and spatial governance constraints.
Contribution and Significance
This achievement was accomplished with the participation of three graduates from the Renewable Energy Engineering Department at Zeytoona University of Science and Technology: Nagham Nassar, Thanaa Rabee, and Wasan Farha, under the mentorship of Dr. Alaa Salameh.
This milestone reflects the department’s ability to produce graduates who contribute actively to scientific research and successfully publish their outcomes in high-impact (Q1) international journals listed in SCOPUS.
Furthermore, this success aligns with ongoing efforts to bolster scientific research in renewable energy, geospatial analysis, and sustainable energy planning. It serves as an inspiring catalyst to continuously involve students and alumni in high-quality research and strengthen Zeytoona University of Science and Technology’s global academic presence.
