Al-Zaytuna University for Science and Technology held a political seminar entitled “Between Jaffa and Gaza: 77 Years of Ongoing Nakba,” delivered by Mr. Sami Abu Shehadeh, head of the National Democratic Assembly Party and former member of the Knesset. The seminar was attended by the university president, Professor Dr. Daoud Al-Zaatari, along with faculty, administrative staff, and students.

Dr. Al-Zaatari opened the seminar with a welcoming address, emphasizing its importance and noting that the university strives to hold such events to enhance cultural awareness among its students and the wider university community.

The seminar commemorated the 77th anniversary of the Palestinian Nakba and focused on the city of Jaffa during the Nakba of 1948, discussing the factors that contributed to its occupation as one of the most important Palestinian cities, highlighting its central demographic, economic, and cultural significance.

Mr. Abu Shehadeh also shed light on the local impact of the Nakba and the ongoing processes of erasure and Judaization that have affected the city and its historical landmarks.

It is worth noting that Abu Shahadeh worked for several years teaching history and political science in various schools in Jaffa. Since 1995, he has also worked as a tour guide in Jaffa. He led the Jaffa Youth Movement for several years, which he co-founded in 2010. He served on the boards and general assemblies of several local and national civil society organizations, including the Mada al-Carmel Center for Applied Social Research, the Arab Culture Association, Adalah, and the Arab National Club, among others.

At the end of the seminar, Dr. Zaatari presented Mr. Abu Shahadeh with a commemorative plaque in recognition of his national efforts and intellectual contributions to raising awareness among generations and defending the Palestinian cause.
